Essential. Ethics.

Ethics are essential to the day to day practice of law.

They are the rules that keep our profession “noble”. They set us apart from others and remind us that our duties to each other and our clients must form the foundation of everything we do in the practice of law.

Put another way–Lawyers are different.

From the Preamble to the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct:

The desire for the respect and confidence of the members of the profession and of the society which it serves provides the lawyer the incentive to attain the highest possible degree of ethical conduct. The possible loss of that respect and confidence is the ultimate sanction.
